In Victoria, completing a Responsible Service of Alcohol course from an approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO) enables you to work in a number of licensed hospitality and entertainment venues upon completion. But unlike a lot of the other states, Victoria does not accept online training as a valid form of RSA accreditation.

Due to these specific state regulations, RSA training in Victoria cannot be completed online like our other state RSA courses. Instead, you must enrol in a face to face training course.

1) Why can’t  I complete the RSA course online with etrainu?

Current legislation in Victoria requires that anyone who serves, prepares, sells, stocks or provide samples of alcoholic beverages must hold a current RSA certificate. Failure could see you or employer with a pretty nasty fine.

If you work in any of the following venues, chances are you will need RSA training:

  • Bars & Pubs
  • Retail liquor outlets
  • Wineries
  • Breweries and distilleries.

As such, it applies to a number of different roles such as the bartender, food and beverage attendant, room service or flight attendant, floor staff or manager and various security staff in a licensed premise.

2) Why do I need an RSA?

Since February 2012, the Victorian Commission Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR) have regulated all of Victoria’s gambling and liquor industries to achieve positive outcomes for the community.

Amendments to the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998 now require mandatory face-to-face training as a major part of RSA training. Those who hold an RSA are also required to complete RSA online refresher course every three years.

For more information, please visit: http://www.vcglr.vic.gov.au/

The VCGLR specify that courses must be only four hours in duration concluding with a closed book exam.

3) Where can I complete the training?

While we regretfully cannot offer the online course in Victoria, there are a number of state approved providers that can.
